Senegal's appeal to regain the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title it lost in a chaotic final against host nation Morocco in January 2025 will be heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on October 8, 2026, according to a statement from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).
The appeal challenges the outcome of the final match, which Morocco won 2-1 after a controversial penalty decision in extra time. The match was marred by crowd disturbances and allegations of officiating bias, leading Senegal to file a formal protest with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and subsequently appeal to CAS.
CAS confirmed the hearing date in a letter to the FSF, seen by Reuters. The Senegalese federation argues that the match should be replayed or the title awarded to Senegal due to what it claims were procedural irregularities and a lack of fair play by the host nation.
Morocco's football federation has dismissed the appeal as baseless, stating that the match was conducted according to regulations. CAF has not commented on the pending case. A decision from CAS is expected within weeks of the hearing.
