The Nigerian Senate has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for generating N7.3 trillion in revenue in 2025, while also backing the service's ongoing reform initiatives. The commendation came during a Senate session on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, following a presentation by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, praised the NCS for surpassing its revenue target, attributing the success to improved automation and anti-smuggling efforts. He noted that the revenue represents a significant increase from the N6.1 trillion recorded in 2024, according to official NCS data.
The Senate also endorsed the NCS's modernization plans, including the full implementation of the National Single Window project, which aims to streamline trade processes and boost revenue collection. Senator Musa emphasized that the reforms would enhance trade facilitation and reduce corruption at the ports.
However, some senators raised concerns about the impact of increased revenue collection on businesses, urging the NCS to balance revenue generation with trade facilitation. The Senate resolved to monitor the implementation of the reforms to ensure they do not hinder legitimate trade.
