MANILA, Philippines – The Senate on Monday, September 21, approved on third and final reading a bill that institutionalizes a comprehensive school safety framework, following three fatal school shootings that shocked the country in recent months.
The bill aims to establish a coordinated approach to preventing violence in schools, including risk assessment, emergency response protocols, and mental health support for students. It also mandates regular safety drills and the creation of school safety committees.
The measure now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration. If passed and signed into law, it would represent a significant step toward addressing school safety concerns in the Philippines.
