Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that he will not vote for Jay Clayton to be confirmed as director of national intelligence. Warner cited concerns about Clayton's lack of intelligence experience and potential conflicts of interest.
Clayton, currently the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, was nominated by President Donald Trump in February 2020. He previously served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2017 to 2020.
Warner's announcement comes ahead of a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Clayton's nomination, scheduled for this week. The committee will vote on whether to advance Clayton's nomination to the full Senate.
