BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 7-month-old girl in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Police arrested 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez on Thursday, April 3, 2026.
Rodriguez is alleged to have been the operator of the moped from which another suspect, 18-year-old Damien Gonzalez, fired multiple shots on the evening of March 30, 2026. The infant, identified as Zaynabou Bah, was struck in the stomach while in a parked car with her family and later died at a hospital.
Gonzalez was previously arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon. Rodriguez now faces charges including murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Police believe the shooting was targeted, but the baby was an unintended victim.
The investigation, involving the NYPD's 90th Precinct and the Brooklyn North Homicide Squad, is ongoing. Community members held a vigil for the child, expressing grief and calling for an end to gun violence.
