Police Scotland, assisted by HM Coastguard, are conducting searches for a monk reported missing from the island of Papa Stronsay in Orkney. The missing man is Justin Evans, a New Zealander who is a member of the monastic community on the island.
Local councillor for the North Isles, David Clackson, confirmed the ongoing search efforts. He noted that while Papa Stronsay is remote, it is not entirely isolated, with regular ferry services connecting it to other islands like Sanday and the Orkney mainland, which aids in the coordination of the search.
HM Coastguard has stated it is supporting Police Scotland with the operation. All media inquiries are being directed to the police, who are leading the investigation. The circumstances surrounding the disappearance are currently unclear.
The search, which involves multiple agencies, underscores the challenges and coordinated response required for incidents in the archipelago's more remote locations.
