The Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations against Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The bench, comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, rejected the plea, stating the petitioner had not approached the court with clean hands.
The PIL, filed by a lawyer, alleged financial irregularities and misuse of power by Khandu. However, the court noted that the petitioner had not disclosed a related complaint previously filed with the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, which had already been dismissed. The bench emphasized that such non-disclosure was a ground for dismissing the petition.
This is not the first legal challenge against Khandu to be dismissed. The court's decision reinforces that PILs must be filed with full transparency and bona fide intentions. No further investigation has been ordered by the Supreme Court in this matter.
