Mayeyi Traditional Authority chief Boniface Shufu has labelled Sangwali village in the Zambezi region as the least developed in the area. He made the remarks during the annual Batshara Cultural Festival held at the village on Sunday, 2 August 2026.
Chief Shufu highlighted the lack of basic infrastructure and services in Sangwali, including poor road networks, limited access to clean water, and inadequate healthcare facilities. He called on the government and development partners to prioritise the village in their development plans.
The Batshara Cultural Festival is an annual event celebrating the culture and heritage of the Mayeyi people. This year's festival attracted community members and leaders who echoed the chief's concerns about the region's development disparities.
Efforts to reach the Zambezi Regional Council for comment were not successful by the time of publication.
