Samsung has announced it will discontinue its proprietary Samsung Messages application. According to an official support notice, the service will end in July 2026.
The company is directing users to Google Messages as its default messaging service. This move consolidates the Android messaging experience around Google's Rich Communication Services (RCS) platform.
Users of recent Samsung Galaxy devices may already have Google Messages pre-installed. Samsung advises users to transition their message history and settings to the new app before the shutdown date.
This decision is part of a broader partnership between Samsung and Google to standardize core Android services. It follows the earlier discontinuation of other Samsung apps like its Internet browser on non-Galaxy devices.
