Samit Patel, the former England all-rounder who retired from domestic cricket, has stated that he "probably wouldn't have played" in a disapproved T20 league earlier this year had he known it would result in a ban from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The 41-year-old, who played 36 ODIs and 19 T20Is for England, was one of several players sanctioned by the ECB for participating in an unauthorized league. Patel expressed regret over the decision, emphasizing that he was unaware of the potential consequences at the time.
Patel's retirement marks the end of a career spanning over two decades, during which he also played for Nottinghamshire and various T20 franchises worldwide. The ECB has not commented further on the matter.
