The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Bowen Byram from the Chicago Blackhawks, according to multiple reports confirmed on June 24, 2026. The trade sends forward Jiri Kulich and a conditional first-round pick to Chicago.
Byram, 24, was originally selected fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Draft. He was traded to the Blackhawks in March 2024 as part of a deal involving forward Casey Mittelstadt. Byram has recorded 15 goals and 45 assists in 180 career NHL games.
The Sabres are adding a young, mobile defenseman to their blue line. Byram is signed through the 2026-27 season with a cap hit of $3.4 million. The conditional first-round pick is believed to be top-10 protected.
