Ryanair Group CEO Michael O'Leary stated that flight bookings within Europe have seen a significant increase as travelers alter plans to avoid airspace affected by Middle East tensions. He made these remarks in an interview with the Financial Times, published on March 17, 2026.

O'Leary attributed the surge to passengers rerouting trips to European destinations instead of traveling through regions experiencing geopolitical instability. He noted that while long-haul traffic to and from Asia has been disrupted, short-haul European travel has benefited.

The CEO's comments follow recent military actions in the Middle East that have led some airlines to adjust flight paths, increasing costs and flight times on certain routes. Ryanair, as a predominantly European short-haul carrier, is positioned to capture demand from this shift in travel patterns.

Industry analysts confirm that carriers focused on intra-European travel have reported stronger booking trends for spring and summer 2026 compared to airlines with substantial exposure to affected long-haul corridors.
