Ryan Condal, the showrunner and co-creator of HBO's House of the Dragon, has signed a new multi-year overall deal with HBO and HBO Max, extending his tenure through the series' fourth season and beyond, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood on May 20, 2026.
The deal, which was confirmed by sources close to the production, ensures Condal will continue to oversee the Game of Thrones prequel series as it moves into its fourth season, currently in development. The agreement also includes development of new projects for the network.
Condal, who co-created the series with George R.R. Martin, has been the sole showrunner since the departure of Miguel Sapochnik after Season 1. Under his leadership, House of the Dragon has remained a flagship series for HBO, with Season 3 currently airing and receiving strong viewership numbers.
HBO has not officially commented on the deal, but the extension signals the network's continued commitment to the franchise. The fourth season is expected to continue adapting material from Martin's Fire & Blood novel, though specific plot details remain under wraps.
