Rwanda has formally requested Morocco's support for the candidacy of Louise Mushikiwabo as the next secretary-general of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF). The request was made during a diplomatic visit by Rwandan officials to Rabat in May 2026, according to verified reports.
Mushikiwabo, who currently serves as the OIF secretary-general, is seeking a second term. Her candidacy has been endorsed by several African nations, and Rwanda is actively lobbying other member states to secure the necessary backing ahead of the OIF summit scheduled for later this year.
Morocco, a key member of the Francophonie, has not yet publicly declared its position. The Rwandan delegation emphasized the importance of continuity and Mushikiwabo's leadership in promoting the French language and multilateral cooperation within the organization.
