President William Ruto has urged political leaders to reject ethnic mobilisation, hate speech and divisive politics, saying Kenyans should judge leaders by their record, vision and ability to deliver services. He made the remarks during a public address, according to a report by the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU).
Ruto said the country had moved beyond tribal politics and called on leaders to focus on development and service delivery. He emphasized that Kenyans are more interested in tangible outcomes such as jobs, healthcare, and infrastructure than in ethnic or regional appeals.
The President's comments come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Ruto has repeatedly stressed the need for issue-based campaigns and has warned against hate speech and incitement, which he said could undermine national unity and stability.
He also urged citizens to hold their leaders accountable and to evaluate them based on their performance in office, rather than on their ethnic background or political affiliations. The President's appeal aligns with his administration's broader agenda of promoting inclusive governance and national cohesion.
