The inaugural Run4Rabies Maroc event was held on April 24, 2026, in Rabat, Morocco, to raise awareness about rabies, a deadly but preventable disease. The event, organized by local health NGOs in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aimed to educate the public on the importance of vaccination and responsible pet ownership.
Hundreds of participants, including families, runners, and veterinarians, took part in a 5-kilometer run through the city. Organizers reported that the event successfully distributed informational materials and provided free rabies vaccinations for dogs, with over 200 animals vaccinated on-site.
Rabies remains a significant public health concern in Morocco, with an estimated 20 to 30 human deaths annually, according to the World Health Organization. The run sought to reduce these numbers by promoting post-exposure prophylaxis and community engagement.
Local authorities praised the initiative, noting that similar events are planned for other cities, including Casablanca and Marrakech, later this year. The event was supported by the Moroccan Association of Veterinary Sciences and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control.
