Alexander Rossi has been medically cleared to drive in the Indianapolis 500, three days after undergoing surgery on his right ankle and the middle finger of his left hand following a crash during practice. The Californian driver told reporters that doctors have given him the green light to compete in the race, scheduled for May 24, 2026.
Rossi, who won the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 as a rookie, sustained the injuries in a crash on May 18 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. The surgery was performed to repair fractures in his ankle and finger.
Despite the setback, Rossi expressed confidence in his ability to race. 'I feel good, and the medical team has cleared me to drive,' he said. 'We're focused on the race now.'
The 34-year-old driver will compete for Arrow McLaren in the event. His participation adds to the story of his resilience, having overcome previous injuries during his career.
