Riga International Airport (RIX) has announced a significant expansion of its summer flight schedule for 2026. According to the airport's official communications, the total number of scheduled passenger flights will increase by 11% compared to the summer season of 2025. Concurrently, the number of available seats is set to grow by 7%, enhancing overall capacity.
The expansion includes the introduction of several new routes to key European destinations. Airlines such as airBaltic, Ryanair, and Wizz Air are contributing to the growth, adding flights to cities including Thessaloniki, Greece; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and Billund, Denmark. These additions aim to improve connectivity for both business and leisure travelers from the Baltic region.
Airport officials state that the growth reflects a continued recovery and strategic development in the aviation sector post-pandemic. The increased frequency on existing popular routes, alongside the new destinations, is expected to support tourism and economic activity in Latvia. The summer flight schedule is active from late March through October 2026.
