Rhythm and Vines, New Zealand's premier New Year's Eve music festival, will relocate from its long-time home in Gisborne to a new venue in 2027, festival chief executive Kieran Spillane announced on July 21, 2026.
βGisborne has been the heart and home of Rhythm and Vines for nearly a quarter of a century,β Spillane said in a statement. The festival has been held annually at the Waiohika Estate vineyard since its inception in 2003.
Spillane cited the need for a larger, more modern site to accommodate the festival's growth and evolving production requirements. The new location has not yet been disclosed, but organizers say it will be within New Zealand and will offer improved infrastructure for attendees.
The 2026 edition, scheduled for December 29β31, will be the final one in Gisborne. Tickets for that event are already on sale, and organizers have assured that all existing tickets will be honored or refunded if the move affects future plans.
Local officials expressed disappointment but acknowledged the festival's contribution to the region's economy over the past 25 years. Gisborne mayor Rehette Stoltz said the city would work with organizers to ensure a smooth transition.
