Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz has officially declared his international allegiance to Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed on March 26, 2026. The 26-year-old attacker, who was also eligible for Spain, has submitted the necessary paperwork to FIFA for the switch.
Diaz was born in Spain to a Moroccan father and a Spanish mother. He had previously represented Spain at youth levels and made one senior appearance in a friendly in 2021, which did not cap-tie him permanently. His decision follows Morocco's historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
"The player Brahim Diaz has chosen the Moroccan national team," the FRMF stated. "All the necessary procedures have been completed with FIFA." Diaz is expected to join the Atlas Lions for upcoming fixtures following the formal approval of his federation transfer.
The playmaker has been a key figure for Real Madrid this season, contributing crucial goals and assists. His choice is seen as a significant boost for Moroccan football ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
