Rahane, known for his elegant stroke play and calm demeanor, played 85 Tests, 90 One-Day Internationals, and 20 T20 Internationals for India. His Test career included 5085 runs at an average of 38.52, with 12 centuries and 26 fifties. In ODIs, he scored 2962 runs at 35.26, with three centuries and 24 half-centuries.
One of his most memorable achievements was leading India to a historic Test series win in Australia in 2020-21, standing in as captain for the injured Virat Kohli. He scored a crucial 112 in the first Test at Melbourne, setting the tone for the series victory.
Rahane's retirement marks the end of an era for Indian cricket, as he was a key figure in the team's success in overseas conditions. He last played for India in a Test against Australia in January 2024.
