A self-proclaimed psychic, John Starkey, 74, of Rhodfa'r Grug, Upper Colwyn Bay, has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison for sexually assaulting two women. The sentencing took place at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday, June 13, 2026.
Starkey, described in court as a 'charlatan,' claimed to be an 'international psychic' and used his purported abilities to gain the trust of his victims. The assaults occurred at his shop in Llandudno, where he offered psychic readings.
During the trial, the court heard how Starkey targeted vulnerable women, including a tourist, and sexually assaulted them under the guise of his psychic services. The judge condemned his actions as a gross abuse of trust.
Detectives from North Wales Police praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward and urged anyone else with information to contact them. Starkey was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
