Portuguese food manufacturer Casa Mendes Gonçalves is evaluating the construction of an agro-food factory in Morocco as part of its international expansion strategy, according to reports. The company, which owns the Paladin, Moreno and Sacana brands, sees Morocco as a potential industrial base to supply Arab markets.
Casa Mendes Gonçalves specialises in sauces and condiments and has been growing its presence in international markets. The company reported a turnover of €63.5 million in 2024, according to its latest financial statements. The Moroccan project remains at the study stage, and no final investment decision has been announced.
Morocco has been actively attracting foreign investment in the agri-food sector, leveraging its geographic position and trade agreements to serve markets in Africa and the Middle East. If realised, the plant would mark a significant step in the Portuguese group's expansion outside Europe.
