Porsche has unveiled a modern tribute to its iconic 935 Moby Dick race car, a model that gained fame in the late 1970s for its extreme aerodynamics and success in endurance racing. The new homage, revealed on August 14, 2026, draws inspiration from the original 935/78, which was nicknamed 'Moby Dick' due to its long, white body and whale-like appearance.
The modern interpretation, based on the current 911 GT2 RS, features a retro livery that echoes the classic Martini Racing colors, along with a large rear wing and aerodynamic enhancements that pay homage to the original. Under the hood, it retains the GT2 RS's 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine, producing 700 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed PDK transmission.
Porsche has not announced a production run or pricing, but the car is expected to be a limited edition, likely reserved for collectors and enthusiasts. The original 935 Moby Dick was a dominant force in the late 1970s, winning several races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979, and this new homage celebrates that legacy.
This reveal follows Porsche's registration of the 'Flachbau' and 'Flachbau RS' designations with the European Patent Office in May 2025, which hinted at a new model with a sloped nose, a signature feature of the original 935. The new homage is a nod to that heritage, blending modern performance with classic design cues.
