Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a five-nation tour on May 21, 2026, securing approximately $40 billion in investment commitments, according to official statements. The visit covered nations including Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, energy security, and defence cooperation.
Key agreements included a $10 billion semiconductor deal with Japan's Rapidus Corporation to establish a chip fabrication plant in India, and a $5 billion AI research partnership with South Korea's Samsung and LG. Energy deals worth $15 billion were signed with the UAE for renewable energy projects, including solar and hydrogen.
Defence cooperation was also advanced, with a $3 billion agreement for joint production of military equipment with Japan. The tour aimed to strengthen India's strategic autonomy and reduce dependence on single sources for critical technologies.
Modi emphasized that these partnerships align with India's goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub, particularly in high-tech sectors. The investments are expected to create thousands of jobs and boost India's GDP growth.
