Patrick Vieira has agreed in principle to become the new head coach of Senegal's national football team, according to multiple sources. However, the contract has not been signed yet, and negotiations are ongoing.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder, who has previously managed Nice, Crystal Palace, and Strasbourg, is expected to replace Aliou Cissé, who was dismissed in July 2026 after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has not made an official announcement, but local media report that Vieira has accepted the offer and is now discussing the terms of his contract, including his coaching staff and salary.
Vieira, 50, has been out of work since leaving Strasbourg in 2023. He is known for his tactical acumen and his ability to develop young players, which aligns with Senegal's ambitions to rebuild the squad after the recent AFCON disappointment.
If confirmed, Vieira will lead Senegal in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the team currently second in their group. The FSF is expected to finalize the deal in the coming days.
