Veteran Hong Kong actor Patrick Tse Yin, 89, has died, marking the passing of one of the last icons from the city's cinematic golden era. Born in the 1930s, Tse helped define Cantonese cinema's rise across Southeast Asia, embodying modern Hong Kong masculinity on screen. His career spanned over six decades, with notable roles in films such as 'The House of 72 Tenants' (1973) and the 'Young and Dangerous' series.
Tse was also the father of actor and singer Nicholas Tse, a major star in his own right. Patrick Tse's death was confirmed by his family on July 22, 2026. He had been in declining health in recent years.
His contributions to Hong Kong cinema were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2019. Tse's passing leaves a void in the industry, as he was among the last surviving stars from the 1960s and 1970s heyday of Cantonese-language films.
