Representatives for Paramount and the state attorneys general suing to block its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) are scheduled to meet next week for talks that could lead to a settlement, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The two sides remain far apart, however, and the plaintiffs may seek an injunction to prevent the merger from closing before the talks conclude, the person said. The meeting comes amid ongoing litigation over the proposed $43 billion deal, which was announced in December 2025.
The attorneys general, led by New York and California, have argued that the merger would harm competition in the streaming and entertainment markets. Paramount and WBD have maintained that the deal is pro-competitive and would benefit consumers.
If the talks fail, the case could proceed to trial, potentially delaying or blocking the merger. The companies have said they expect to close the deal by mid-2027, pending regulatory approval.
