The 2026 Cannes Classics lineup will open with a 4K restoration of Guillermo del Toro's 'Pan's Labyrinth,' set as the festival's pre-opening screening on May 12 in the Debussy Theater. The film originally premiered at Cannes in 2006 and won three Academy Awards.
The restoration was supervised by del Toro and cinematographer Guillermo Navarro, who won the Oscar for Best Cinematography for the original film. The new 4K version was created from a 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative.
'Pan's Labyrinth' remains one of del Toro's most acclaimed works, blending fantasy and historical drama set in post-Civil War Spain. The film earned what was then the longest standing ovation in Cannes history, lasting 22 minutes.
The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 13 to May 24, 2026. The full Cannes Classics lineup includes other restored films, but 'Pan's Labyrinth' serves as the opening attraction.
