ISLAMABAD: Pakistan expects IT exports to reach up to $4.6 billion in the current fiscal year, the Prime Minister's Office said on Monday, underscoring the government's push to expand one of the country's fastest-growing sources of foreign exchange.
The statement, issued on May 11, 2026, highlighted that the target reflects a significant increase from previous years, driven by government incentives and a growing freelance workforce. The PM's office did not provide a breakdown of the projected figure but noted that IT exports have been rising steadily.
Pakistan's IT sector has seen growth due to policies such as tax exemptions for IT companies and improved internet infrastructure. The government aims to boost IT exports to $10 billion by 2028, according to earlier official statements.
The announcement comes as Pakistan seeks to stabilize its economy amid a balance-of-payments crisis. IT remittances are a key source of foreign currency, alongside worker remittances.
