ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has extended its airspace ban on Indian civilian and military aircraft for another month, until August 23, 2026, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on July 18, 2026.
The previous restriction, which had been in place since July 2026, was set to expire on July 23. The extension continues a policy that began in February 2019 after a military standoff between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The ban applies to all Indian aircraft, including commercial flights and military planes, and prohibits them from entering Pakistani airspace. The PAA cited security concerns as the reason for the extension.
This move affects air travel between India and Pakistan, as well as flights that previously used Pakistani airspace as a shortcut. Airlines have had to reroute flights, adding time and cost to journeys.
The extension comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, with no immediate signs of resolution. The PAA has not indicated when the ban might be lifted.
