Vietnamese authorities have arrested more than 300 of its citizens who were repatriated from Cambodia in March, following the dismantling of a transnational cyber scam operation. The individuals are accused of involvement in internet fraud.
The arrests were announced by Vietnamese police on March 29, 2026. The suspects were part of a larger group repatriated after Cambodian authorities, in a coordinated effort, busted the scam ring operating within its borders.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of transnational cybercrime networks in Southeast Asia, where individuals are often lured with job offers and then forced to work in scam compounds. Regional law enforcement agencies have been increasing cooperation to combat these criminal operations.
