Over 1,400 Ugandan Muslims have been cleared to travel to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for the 2026 annual Hajj pilgrimage. The announcement was made by Sheikh Zakariyah Kyewalyanga, the chairperson of the Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs (UBHA).

Sheikh Kyewalyanga stated that the pilgrims are part of the first group to receive clearance, with more expected to be approved in subsequent phases. The process involves coordination with Saudi authorities to ensure all travel and health requirements are met.

The Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is expected to take place in early June 2026, corresponding to the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. The Ugandan bureau is working to facilitate smooth travel and accommodation for all pilgrims.
