Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun has alleged that the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, is planning to “implicate and arrest” him ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. Egbedun made the allegation while reacting to the detention of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who was arrested by the police.
According to reports, the SSG was detained over allegations related to the ongoing political crisis in the state. Egbedun claimed that the police action against the SSG is part of a broader plot to target opposition figures, including himself, as the election approaches.
The police have not yet responded to these allegations. The governorship election in Osun State is scheduled to hold later this year, and tensions have been rising among political stakeholders.
This development adds to the political tension in the state, with opposition parties accusing the ruling party of using security agencies to intimidate opponents. The state government has not issued an official statement on the matter.
