Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State, was formally invested as the Race Ambassador for the World Athletics Gold Label Okpekpe International 10km Road Race on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The investiture took place during a dinner event in Okpekpe, Edo State.
The Okpekpe race, which began in 2013, is the first road race in West Africa to receive a Gold Label designation from World Athletics. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Oshiomhole's role as Race Ambassador is expected to promote the event and athletics in Nigeria. The race has attracted elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, and other countries in previous editions.
Organizers have confirmed that the 2026 race will feature a competitive field, with prize money for top finishers. The event is part of the World Athletics Label Road Races series.
