Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) has stated that divisions among opposition leaders will benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today on May 13, 2026, Oshiomhole specifically referenced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's criticism of Labour Party's Peter Obi.
Oshiomhole said, 'Atiku is now our best campaign manager because he attacks Obi.' He argued that such infighting weakens the opposition's ability to mount a unified challenge against President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid. The senator noted that the APC is focused on governance and delivering on its promises.
Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in 2023, and Obi have traded barbs over the past year, with Atiku accusing Obi of splitting the opposition vote. Obi has dismissed the claims, urging opposition unity. The 2027 election is expected to be highly competitive, with Tinubu seeking a second term.
