Orange, in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), is accelerating youth access to employment through the 'Master Repair' program at Orange Digital Centers. The initiative, launched in several African countries, trains young people in smartphone repair and refurbishment, providing them with marketable skills in the growing tech repair sector.
According to verified reports, the program has already trained hundreds of youth since its inception, with plans to expand to more centers. Participants receive hands-on training on repairing various smartphone models, including battery replacement, screen repair, and software troubleshooting. Upon completion, they receive a certification that enhances their job prospects or enables them to start their own repair businesses.
The collaboration between Orange and GIZ aims to address youth unemployment by equipping young people with practical, in-demand skills. The program also promotes environmental sustainability by reducing electronic waste through repair and reuse. Orange Digital Centers, present in over 20 countries, serve as hubs for digital training and innovation.
As of May 2026, the program continues to grow, with new cohorts starting regularly. Interested youth can apply at their local Orange Digital Center. The initiative is part of a broader effort by Orange and GIZ to foster digital inclusion and economic empowerment in emerging markets.
