New Zealand Police have re-launched their investigation into the disappearance of Andrew Maaka, a 29-year-old Headhunters gang prospect who vanished in 1991. Authorities issued a renewed appeal for information on May 14, 2026, seeking public assistance to solve the decades-old case.
Maaka was last seen in the Auckland area in 1991. Despite previous inquiries, his whereabouts remain unknown. Police have not disclosed specific new evidence but stated that advances in forensic technology and investigative methods may provide fresh leads.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Wilson, leading the renewed probe, said, 'We believe there are people who hold key information about what happened to Andrew. Even after 35 years, it's never too late to come forward.' The case has been assigned to the Auckland City Police's cold case unit.
Maaka's family has been informed of the re-launch and expressed hope for closure. Police urge anyone with information to contact them via 105 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
