Northern Territory Police have charged a 20-year-old man with sexual intercourse without consent and other offences after an alleged rape of an elderly woman in her Palmerston home. The incident was reported to police on Friday, and the man was arrested and charged on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Police said the woman, aged in her 70s, was assaulted in her home in the Palmerston suburb of Driver. The man, who is known to the victim, was refused bail and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday, May 25.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jo Cameron said the alleged attack was 'a horrific violation of a vulnerable woman in her own home.' She urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
The charges include sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault, and unlawful entry. The man's identity has not been released.
