Christopher Nolan's latest film, 'The Odyssey,' opened with a spectacular £12.5 million ($16.8 million) at the UK and Ireland box office, according to Universal Pictures. The debut marks one of the strongest openings of the year for the region.
The film, an epic adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek poem, stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway. It is Nolan's second-highest opening in the UK and Ireland, behind only 'The Dark Knight Rises' which earned £16.2 million in 2012.
'The Odyssey' has received positive reviews, with a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised Nolan's visual storytelling and the film's immersive IMAX sequences. The movie is expected to perform strongly in the coming weeks, with no major blockbuster competition until August.
