The Junior Beta Club at North Myrtle Beach Middle School (NMBMS) in South Carolina has launched a community shoe drive fundraiser. The club is collecting gently worn, used, and new shoes to raise money for its student programs and activities.
The collected footwear will be given to Funds2Orgs, a for-profit social enterprise that partners with micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations. Funds2Orgs will issue a monetary donation to the Junior Beta Club based on the total weight of shoes collected, providing funds for club initiatives and educational trips.
The drive accepts all types of shoes, including athletic sneakers, boots, sandals, and dress shoes, as long as they are paired and in decent condition. Donation bins are located at the school. Community members are encouraged to participate by dropping off shoes to support the students' efforts.
Similar shoe drive fundraisers are common among school groups and organizations across the United States, providing a sustainable fundraising method that also supports global economic development initiatives.
