KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Nine individuals were charged in court today following a viral publicity stunt involving flares and reckless driving in Bukit Bintang, police confirmed. The incident, which took place earlier this week, sparked widespread outrage online after videos showed a car driving erratically while emitting flares near a popular shopping district.
According to the New Straits Times, the nine suspects face charges related to public nuisance and endangering lives. Police stated that another six individuals are still being investigated for their involvement in the stunt, which was allegedly organized to promote a clothing store.
The stunt, which went viral on social media, drew criticism from netizens and authorities alike. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the actions were irresponsible and could have caused serious harm. The case has been set for mention on June 5.
