Nigeria has officially submitted its bid to host the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on May 13, 2026. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) announced the bid, proposing Lagos as the host city for the annual event that honors the best African football players and teams.
The bid was presented by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau during a ceremony in Abuja, attended by government officials and football stakeholders. Gusau stated that Nigeria's infrastructure, including the Eko Convention Centre and international airports, makes it a suitable venue. CAF will evaluate bids based on facilities, security, and logistical capacity.
If successful, this would be the first time Nigeria hosts the CAF Awards since the event's inception in 1992. The country previously hosted the 2000 African Cup of Nations (co-hosted with Ghana) and the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. CAF is expected to announce the winning bid by August 2026.
