Newcastle United's UEFA Champions League campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat to FC Barcelona at St. James' Park on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The result confirmed the Magpies' exit from the competition at the group stage.
Barcelona took an early lead through Raphinha in the 6th minute. The Brazilian winger doubled the visitors' advantage in the 33rd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error. Robert Lewandowski added a third for Barcelona in the 59th minute, before Anthony Elanga scored a late consolation goal for Newcastle in the 89th minute.
The defeat left Newcastle at the bottom of Group F with five points from six matches. Barcelona, who had already qualified, finished top of the group. Manager Eddie Howe stated his team was "hugely disappointed" but acknowledged the quality of the opposition.
