The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 708 Nigerians who were stranded in the Niger Republic. The returnees arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, aboard a chartered flight from Niamey.
According to NEMA officials, the evacuation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Mission in Niger and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The returnees, who included men, women, and children, were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance upon arrival.
The agency stated that the individuals had been stranded following the closure of borders and other regional challenges. All returnees were profiled and underwent security and health screenings as part of the standard protocol.
NEMA's Director-General emphasized the agency's commitment to assisting distressed Nigerians abroad. The returnees are expected to be transported to their respective states of origin to continue their reintegration process.
