The provincial government of Negros Occidental has opened its first halfway house for former New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, as part of efforts to support their reintegration into mainstream society.
The facility was inaugurated on August 21, 2026, according to the provincial government. It will provide temporary shelter and assistance to former rebels who have surrendered and are undergoing the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the halfway house aims to help former rebels transition back to civilian life, offering them a safe space while they receive services such as livelihood training and psychosocial support.
The provincial government allocated funds for the establishment of the facility, which is part of the province's peace and development efforts. The halfway house is expected to accommodate former rebels from various parts of the province.
Local officials and representatives from the Philippine Army attended the inauguration, emphasizing the importance of community support in the reintegration process.
