A 19-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) died by suicide in Chennai on June 17, 2026, according to police. The incident occurred in the Ambattur area of the city.
The student, identified as R. Karthik, was found hanging in his room. Police said he had been under stress due to exam preparation. No suicide note was recovered from the scene.
Karthik's family told police he had been studying for NEET for over a year and was under pressure to perform well. He was a resident of the same locality and had been taking coaching classes.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the suicide. This incident adds to the growing concern over student suicides linked to competitive exam pressure in India.
