The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has warned of increasing political intolerance, organized intimidation, and violence in Kenya, posing a serious threat to peace and democracy. The commission specifically condemned an attack on All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, which it described as a place of worship and sanctuary.
NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia stated that the attack on the cathedral was a direct assault on religious freedom and national unity. He called for immediate action to address the rising trend of political violence, which he said could undermine the country's stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission urged political leaders to desist from inflammatory rhetoric and called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the attack. The NCIC also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of hate speech or incitement to violence.
