NEW YORK, May 12, 2026 β The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) issued a statement today regarding the passing of Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke. The statement was released by NBPA Executive Director Andre Iguodala and NBPA President Fred VanVleet.
βWe are heartbroken by the tragic passing of our brother, Brandon Clarke,β the statement read. βBrandon was a beloved teammate, a fierce competitor, and a wonderful person. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, his teammates, and the entire Memphis Grizzlies organization during this incredibly difficult time.β
Clarke, 29, had been with the Grizzlies since being selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was known for his high-energy play and contributions both on and off the court. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed by authorities as of this report.
The NBPA has offered support services to Grizzlies players and staff. The team has not yet issued a separate statement, but tributes have begun pouring in from across the NBA community.
