Olympique de Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury. The club confirmed on April 16, 2026, that the Moroccan international has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
Aguerd, 30, sustained the injury during a Ligue 1 match against Stade Rennais on April 13. He was forced to leave the pitch in the 27th minute after a non-contact incident. Medical assessments the following day confirmed the severity of the ligament damage.
The center-back joined Marseille from West Ham United in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee of £17 million. He had made 28 appearances across all competitions this season, becoming a key figure in the team's defense before this setback.
ACL injuries typically require a recovery period of six to nine months, meaning Aguerd is also likely to miss the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign. His absence is a significant blow to Marseille's ambitions for the final stretch of the current season.
